"What about the
others?" Iason asked Danielle, "What about the powers already
missing?"
Danielle sighed
heavily, "Judy was blessed by Articuno with the gift of flight even in the
hardest snowstorms, and power over those of ice, Celebi, gave Sam power over
those of the grass element and the ability to sense what people will become,
from Latias to Faith was given the gift of illusion and that of mental prowess
and dragon heart, Jirachi, the Wish Maker, gave Artemis the gift of knowing
what others truly desire, from Kyogre to Miko, was given the power over those
of the waves, and the gift of safe travel over the oceans, no matter what the
time of year, or how stormy the weather and from Groudon to Neil the power over
those of the Ground, and the promise that no matter where he was, as long as he
was on solid earth, there would always be somewhere safe for him to rest."
Greg and Rex were
talking slightly to the side of the group, “Can you imagine what would happen
if a power like Ash’s fell into the wrong hands?” Greg asked.
“Why don’t I like the
way this is going?” Rex replied, frowning.
“What do you mean?”
“First you lead George
to try to get us to abandon the others, then you were scornful of Danielle, I
saw you, don’t deny it, and now you’re talking about a teenager’s gift like
it’s something to be exploited.”
“And you don’t think
the enemy sees it that way? How can we guarantee that Ash won’t fall under
Hypnosis again and one of us won’t be able to save him? Or Pikachu won’t be
able to shock him out of it? What happens then?” Greg asked in a whisper.
“I still don’t like
where this is going.” Rex replied with an even bigger frown.
“What I’m saying is, is
it safe to let Ash wander around with that much power, when he’s hurt and tired
and has been a target almost every time the ghosts have appeared so far?”
“I trust Ash with it
more then I’d trust you right now.” Rex answered honestly. Greg glared at him
and stormed off. Rex shook his head and went to sit over by Ash, Kayla and
Brendan. “How’re your Pokemon doing?” Rex asked them.
“I think I’m gunna keep
my Vaporion out of any more battles for a while.” Kayla said with a sigh.
“Same for my Magneton.”
Brendan replied.
“I’d love to keep
Pikachu out of the battles.” Ash said, looking over to his electric mouse who
was over by Danielle, “But I can’t get him to listen to me on that subject,
he’s as bad as I am.”
“Can’t you return him
to his…” Rex shut up, if looks could kill, Ash’s would have killed him then
brought him back and killed him again.
“I would never force
Pikachu into his Pokeball.”
“Pika.” Pikachu said,
coming so stand by his Trainer. Rex should have remembered that, Ash wouldn’t
budge on the issue, even when the steward had gotten funny about Pikachu eating
on Ash’s table, and had insisted that Ash returned Pikachu this second. The
teen’s reaction had been the talk of the ship the whole first week. He’d simply
said that obviously their presence wasn’t welcome in the Dinning Hall, and
proceeded to empty his plate onto the steward before calmly walking out and
eating on the top deck.
“Sorry Pikachu.”
Pikachu mock glared at him for about a second, then smiled.
“Pikachu.” The Pokemon
replied.
“Do I even need to
translate that?” Ash asked.
“Something like don’t
worry?”
“Close.” Ash laughed.
“You two have a lot of
the same mannerisms. I’ve seen it in beginning pairs before, but never quite so
pronounced.” Rex said, approving, “Shows you two have a good bond.”
“I think it comes from
the fact Pikachu hasn’t been inside it’s Pokeball since I got him, I think
we’ve rubbed off on each other.” Ash said, “Me and Pikachu have been everywhere
together for the past…”
“Pika!” Pikachu said
staring at him.
“Five years two weeks
ago?” Ash asked his Pikachu. Pikachu nodded. “Since my tenth Birthday, which
was five years two weeks ago.”
“You had your Birthday
on ship and never told us?” Kayla sounded scandalised. “When we get out of
here, we’re having a party for your Birthday and that’s final.” Ash just
laughed.
Rex was laughing
harder, “You forgot when your Birthday was didn’t you?”
“No.” Ash replied too
quickly, and Kayla and Brendan joined in Rex’s laughter.
“Can you please not
attract any more ghosts with all your noise.” Greg growled at them. Rex glared
back, the mood which had been lightening, became heavy and dark again. Rex
stood up and walked over to the Chosen of Entai and pulled him aside, so the
others couldn’t see what they were talking about.
“Have you ever heard of
trying to keep peoples minds off of things that scare them?” Rex snarled.
“Have you ever heard of
enough noise to wake the dead?” Greg snarled back.
“Greg! Rex!” Iason came
over and pulled the two Trainers apart, “This isn’t any time for fighting,
Greg, Rex was trying to keep moral up, Rex, please don’t beat anyone up, we
need everyone we can get.”
“IASON! REX! GREG!”
Kayla’s shout made the three boys turn around.
“Go Noctowl!” Raven
called, “Foresight!”
“Round four anyone?”
Ash asked, continuing Rex’s comment from earlier, he got a laugh from Kayla,
Rex, Danielle, and a couple of the others as he sent out his Galie, “Ice Beam!”
Ash called, pointing to the nearest Gastly.
“Ninetales!”
“Electabuzz!”
“Nuzleaf!”
Iason saw the four
Trainers covering each other’s backs, and sent out his Blaziken to assist the
others. He’d much have preferred to use his Dragonite but there just wasn’t
room.
Five minutes later, Ash
looked around a room devoid of Ghost types and asked the question that was
plaguing everyone, “Umm, where’d they go?”
“They ran away
already?” Katherine asked, “Why does that seem too easy?”
“Dunno, but I found the
door we missed.” Juni cheered, happy that something had gone right, and no one
had been snatched that time.
“Are we ready to move
out then?” Iason asked. Everyone nodded, “Let’s go then.”
