“Ya...Yugi,
before you dive into that.” Kari interrupted, “I need to talk to you,
privately.” She glanced around at their surroundings and subtly indicated the
people who were trying not to listen in on their conversation before whispering.
“I think you might be able to get in contact with your brother.”
“How?”
Yami demanded, his hand going to the Puzzle which hung around his neck, as it
had since Yugi had given it to him to hold before the kidnapping. “He doesn’t
have...”
“Not
here.” Kari hissed. “Meet me in my room in ten minutes.” With that she grabbed
up her backpack and left, Ombre in tow.
“What’s
that about?” Joey asked.
Yami
shrugged, just as confused as Joey was but less willing to show it. He finished
off what was left on his plate and headed back to the bedrooms, making sure
that he had collected all of his stuff on the way out.
He
was halfway back to the rooms when someone stepped into his path, one of the
many, many suited individuals that seemed to work on board the ship. “Yugi
Mutou?”
When
Yami nodded, the man offered him a satellite phone, “Phone call for you.” Yami
snatched the phone away from the man, frowning. Everyone who would possibly
phone him was on the boat with him except for his grandfather. Unless...
“Yugi,
speaking.” Yami said as the man who had given him the phone gestured for him to
put it to his ear and then disappeared around the corner.
“Hello,
Yugi.” A man’s voice sounded far too amused, irritating Yami, “I’ve got someone
here who’s dying to speak to you.”
There
was a weak, pained cry and the sound of something soft hitting something hard,
then a hoarse, exhausted, pain riddled voice asked, “Yu...Yugi?”
“I’m
here...” The Pharaoh breathed, his mind working overtime as worry overtook
irritation, relief following swiftly on its heels. Yugi was hurt, but he was
alive.
“Go
home, please.” Yugi begged, “It’s a trap. It’s not me they... argh!” Yugi cut
off with a pained, winded cry.
“Yugi!”
Yami yelped.
“That’s
all the time you two get for now.” The man from before said.
“I
swear, I’m going to rip you limb from limb.” Yami snarled, furious as he heard
Yugi try and muffle another cry. “Along with anyone else who’s laid a finger on
him.”
“Now
now, Yugi.” The man on the other end of the phone chuckled viciously, “That won’t
get your brother back in one piece. If anything happens to me, my men have
strict orders to kill him.”
Yami
bit his tongue. He could not and would not risk Yugi’s life, no matter how much
he wanted to threaten the man. “What do you want from me?” He asked instead.
“We’ve
had it arranged that your start point will be on the other side of the island, on
the beach. Once there you will need to go to the cave system at the end of the
beach. We will meet you there.”
“That didn’t answer my question.” Yami snapped irritably.
“You’ll
see when you get there.” The man snorted. “Just be there within half an hour of
getting dropped off. Or...well, I don’t think I need to say it.”
No,
he didn’t.
“I’ll
be there.” Yami swore, “And you’d better be ready to release my brother.” The
call disconnected, leaving Yami staring at the piece of equipment like he was
willing it to set on fire.
