She
was almost pleased to see that the leader discarded the Puzzle carelessly, as
if convinced that his set would trump anything that the Egyptians could design.
In theory it was true, this set, forged from the souls of everyone in Domino,
should be more powerful.
But
while Domino played host to 50,000 souls and Kul Elna had held only ninety-nine
that fateful day, the Millennium Items were older and this ritual was a botch
job. They were combining rituals so they did not have to kill everyone
individually, like the Egyptians had.
She
just wished she knew what role the First Sacrifice played. It was obviously important
or they would not have chosen to use a powerful soul for the role.
As
she recovered the Puzzle, it was obvious everyone here was on high alert. She
could easily get in and out, but the seal was being protected by too many for
her to interfere with the seal on the ground. That meant that she needed to
find another way to break down their spell.
The
best way, or at least the most obvious way was to deal with the leader
directly. It was not her usual style. She preferred working from the Shadows.
The Pharaoh was much better at the direct attack than she was. However she had
no options left. The Pharaoh was trapped in the Puzzle and her host was out of
the fight.
She
would have to step up to the plate.
When
this was over, she was going to rub this in the Pharaoh’s face. Repeatedly. For
months.
She
was not supposed to be the hero, damn it.
She
dropped the Puzzle into the circle where the Pharaoh’s runt was just stirring
from where she had landed, waited until she saw Yugi curl around the Item and
moved into position, waiting for the right moment to attack. The last time she
had done a direct, obvious, group attack had been Egypt, when she had attacked
the Pharaoh and her court. She had allowed her crazed hosts to go for it. It
did not matter if they were killed after all, she could always claim a new one.
But her landlord was half of her own soul and she did not wish to get her
slaughtered if there was a better way to handle the situation.
Then
the leader took a phone call and she smirked as she summoned Diabound to deal
with the troops and dropped down in front of the boss. “Hey.” She started conversationally
as Diabound started ripping through the mooks and she called the Shadows to her
game, “I have a bone to pick with you.”
“Hey,
I have another call to deal with. Get the ball rolling.” The leader put the
phone down and smirked at Bakura, “You’re too late girl. In just one minute,
you and your entire city will die.”
